A beautiful family of 4 in their happy place in WV

Check out this gorgeous documentary Family PhotoShoot

I have to share with you on the blog today!

I’ve been photographing this sweet family of 4 since 2021. Amy contacted me while I was in France and we made plans for the Fall. After their gorgeous session at home in DC, she became a member of the Photo-fetti Club and she’s now enjoying annual family sessions every year. We’ll even shoot 2 this year: one in the Spring, another one in the Fall!

It’s always a pleasure to photograph them and after 2 photoshoots at home, she contacted me to see if we could do one at their vacation home in West Virginia!

“Hell yes!” was my first reaction.

And “when life gives you lemons”… make a weekend out of it! That’s how my own family tagged along for a fun easter weekend where we hiked and enjoyed nature.

The goal for Amy was to capture their daily life in their home away from home, enjoy the outdoors and the cabin. So that’s exactly what we did!

After a few shots of the family getting ready to get outside (prep photos are one of my favs!), we headed to their “campground” to make a fire and play hide and seek. Felix and Willa had a great time running and playing. For me, this is one of the most important things when it comes to family photoshoots —ensuring that the shoot is centered around the natural flow of where the family wants to go and what the kids are happiest doing.

We also stumbled upon the neighbor’s truck delivering horse manure :-) That was probably the kids’ highlight of the session… I cannot compete with that, obviously!

Then we came inside for some downtime building legos and just chilling. This is the best thing about being in your home —you don’t need to worry about activities. They are handy and the kids love showing me their toys and sharing their stories.

Here are 10 of my favorite photos from their sessions but I could have easily added 10 more.

And here is what Amy shared when she got her photos:

These are wonderful—you always exceed our expectations and we appreciate your talent more than you know.  Thank you for being up for the trip and doing things differently—I know we’ll always treasure having photos out there.“

Every family is different and your uniqueness should be celebrated! It means YES to bed hair, non-matching socks, re-heated coffees. Like you, I am a busy mom trying to do #allthethings while keeping a record of it. I have a system to make sessions low-stress, artful, and perfectly unposed. You just have to slow down and enjoy the simple fact of being together.

I am also an eco-friendly business that tries not to harm the earth more than necessary by limiting plastic (or disposing of it correctly), finding sustainable products, reusing packaging, and planting trees.

You are one email away from having a realistic and artful record of who you “actually” are. Contact me now.
